Ayn Rand's Anthem: A Dystopian Society

Anthem is a very interesting dystopian story written by Ayn Rand. Anthem is written about people who have no freedom. They don’t feel emotions, aren’t allowed to think on their own, or use the word I. Nobody is better then someone else. There is always and limit of what they can do, and where they can go. But two people fall in love and decide to change everything. Divergent is another good example of a dystopian society. Divergent was directed by Neil Burger. In the movie there are different groups of people. In this movie if you are different you are punished. There are rules that must be followed. And places you must not go. Anthem and Divergent are both dystopian societies. A dystopian society is an illusion of a perfect society. Everybody thinks everything is great, but they don’t realize they are being controlled. They don’t realize how wicked it all is. All they know is what they are controlled or programed to do. Teens like these kind of books and movies because they are exciting. They aren’t very predictable. I think we enjoy them because we can relate to them in a way.

In Anthem the author kind of favors Equality. Equality is a man and does everything. Liberty is kind of just there. Equality makes all the changes and makes things happen. Equality is definitely the main character. Liberty plays a big part in the story, she just doesn’t really do anything. Divergent on the other hand, honors a girl. Tris is the main person is the movie. In anthem they are trying to change the society. But instead of forcing the house of scholars to change, they run away and try and start over. They try to start their own healthy society. In divergent, they put up a fight. They pretty much go to war with the government to stop doing what they are doing.
