Axial System

Decent Essays
The structure of the axial system consists of 80 bones. These bones consist of, the cranium, cervical, sternum ribs, thoracic, lumbar, sacrum and coccyx. These are mainly found in the vertebral column.
The axial system provides a surface for major muscles to attach onto, which allows them to stay on the body. Also, the axial system supports and protects the organs in the dorsal and ventral cavities.
The structure of the appendicular system consists of 126 bones, many of which are found in the lower and upper limbs, pectoral girdles, hands and feet, and the pelvis.
The function of the appendicular system is to hold and support the limbs, such as the arms and legs, onto the axial system. The arms are joined onto the axial system by the pectoral

    Appendicular muscles help the pelvic girdles, pectoral girdles, and the limbs. The appendicular muscles stabilize and positions the pectoral/pelvic girdles producing movement to the upper and lower limbs.
