When New Orleans crosses your mind, what do you first think of it? Is it Mardi Gras or the successful jazz musicians that were rooted in the city? Is it the food culture and festivities that come along every year? What if I was to tell you that there was once a period in New Orleans history that caused true hysteria and madness in the community? During the morning of May 23rd, 1918, Brothers Jake and Andrew Maggio would wake and prepare their day like they normally would. It seemed like a typical day for the two. The only difference being that their brother Joseph and his wife Catherine weren’t awake. They proceed to enter their room and find something sinister and inconceivable. Joseph and Catherine Maggio were found dead from slash wounds. They had been attacked during the night by a man who broke into the home by kicking out a panel of the back door.
