Oliver Sacks Movie Analysis

This movie awakening is based on the book of neurologist Oliver Sacks, it is based on the real life story of the author Dr. Sacks he is the one who initiate to change the names of the characters, even his name so they come up with Dr. Sayer the movie is directed by Penny Marshall, it gives the people a great story about a Doctor named Malcolm Sayer played by the late actor Robin Williams he is working in Bronx, one of the hospital in New York. He met the patient named Leonard Lowe who is suffering from the 1920’s epidemic “ encephalitis lethargica according to the wikipedia it is a typical form of encephalitis. Also known as "sleepy sickness" ", he study about the condition of Leonard and by using the drug L-DOPA he is able to wake Leonard up on Long sleep, together with the other patient in the garden and bring their to life again, they able to talk , and tell stories even though at first they are not aware of how long they have been out of this world, Dr. Sayer give them a new hope , Leonard learn to fall in love with Paula and do what he loves to do using his hands, art. But to find out that the medication is not enough to wake them up permanently , after a while they all come back to their old conditions. The people can learn more about the originate of the sickness, what is the struggle of each of the characters how they cope up, how they become strong despite of their condition, how to live again after they sleep for how many years. The happiness that they have when they wake up, the friendship that they build, the connection of the doctor to his patient, his determination, his passion and his kindness, everything about this movie is fascinating except for the painful ending that the viewers need to endure, specially the love and pain of the mother Mrs. Lowe is something that a lot of people can relate and
