The heart is the most important muscular organ in the human anatomy. It is located in the thoracic cavity medial to the lungs and posterior to the sternum. Its function is to pump the deoxygenated blood within the veins to the lungs for oxygen before pumping it to the rest of the body’s organs. Every cell in the body needs oxygen, without the oxygen, the cells will die.
