The Barksdale crew continues to use violence against people who commit crimes against them such as Brandon Wright, who steals from the Barksdale organization, and is brutally tortured and killed by the Barksdale organization (“The Wire”). Brandon’s murder is not only done in retaliation for the crime, but the display of his body for all to see is done intentionally to display the consequences of crossing such a powerful and brutal organization. The Barksdale crew continues to uses shows of violence in the third season against Marlowe’s crew in order to gain territory and to retaliate for losses they face when Marlowe retaliates for their actions. Avon’s desire to use violence to take territory can be seen as a way in which Avon is attempting to show others the abilities of his restructured organization and to protect the the corners that he sees should be his from other drug dealers.
