Obesity is different from being overweight

Its not easy to know if a child is overweight or obese as they tend to grow at different rates.

Childhood obesity is a serious medical condition which occurs when a child is well above the normal weight for his/her age and height.

Childhood obesity can also lead to poor self-esteem and depression.

We must treat and prevent childhood obesity as it helps to protect the health of your child now and in the future.
How to calculate obesity in children?

Body mass index (BMI) calculation is one of the tools used to assess whether a person is underweight, healthy weight or overweight. BMI is calculated by dividing your weight in kilograms by your height in metres squared (m2).
BMI alone are not appropriate to measure child 's obesity as a child 's BMI may change in respect to his age and physical development.
BMI for-age-centile charts are designed for age of children between 2-18.
To get a better picture of child 's development ,the height and weight along with gender and other criteria is considered.
