That was until the game Wednesday, September 14th. It was an away game against Dordt College and the athlete with the condition was playing outside midfield. This is a position where the most running will occur. She had just made a run up the sideline of the field when the defense for Dordt got the ball and they started to attack BVU’s goal. Typically this is when the athlete with the condition would start to run back on defense, although this is not what happened. I was playing forward and running back with the play when a turned around and saw her showing the symptoms that she was having an episode. I started to walk towards her and yell at my team to kick the ball out and get our certified athletic training to come help. Even though I was trying to do all this as fast as possible no one heard my yells and before I even go to the girl having the episode she fell face first into the ground. At this point, the ball had finally been kicked out and I had arrived at the side of the girl. The team's another coach was there too and I had to instruct him to not touch her and to treat it like a seizure. Quickly BVU’s certified athletic trainer showed up and got the situation under control. After about a couple minutes of waiting for her to regain consciously, she was removed from the field and spent the rest

    1) Does age of a patient play a role in how much of his or her brain causes seizures and what parts of their brain cause seizures? I remember learning that Dr. Ben Carson did a hemispherectomy (one of the hemispheres of the brain or half of the brain is removed) in a little girl (age 4-5) who had seizures and that the girl had no brain impairment later in life. 2) Can a patient who has an MRI scan done on them experience negative side effects due to the MRI equipment or procedure? I know that exposure to too much X-ray radiation can be detrimental to one's health. Since MRI scans produce better images of the brain than CT scans, which use X-ray particles, I was wondering there are patient related reasons when doctors may opt to order a CT…

Courts have examined claims that detentions of students by school officials constitute an unlawful seizure. A seizure occurs when individuals feel they are not free to leave, such as when students are detained by school administrators for questioning. The Tenth Circuit, however, noted: “To qualify as a seizure in the school context, the limitation on the student’s freedom of movement must significantly exceed that inherent in every-day, compulsory attendance.” As in the cases involving searches, courts examine school officials’ actions to determine if a seizure or detainment of a student is reasonable—that is, justified at its inception and not excessively intrusive in light of the student’s age and sex and the specific infraction.…

Epilepsy is the second most common disorder of the brain, that affects approximately 1% of the world’s population. The burden of epileptic disorders is increasing in the developing countries, where patients in rural areas find it difficult to get easy access to the expert neurologists [19]. The situation worsens due to the fact that about 40% of all individuals with epilepsy are suffering from a condition where a single type of AED fails to completely control seizures. Epilepsy makes it difficult for patients to live a normal life because of unpredictability of seizure occurrence. Thus the most common treatment option of AEDs proves ineffective due to variations in seizure types and occurrence time in individual.…

A seizure is a symptom of underlying central nervous system dysfunction in which abnormal electrical discharges in areas of the brain are responsible for a temporary episode of behavior alteration. Seizures may be trigger by certain factors including stressful situations, such as hypoxia or rapid drop in blood glucose. It can also occur in young children and infants due to a sudden elevation in body temperature. There are different types of seizures, generalized and partial, and their classification depends on the causes, symptoms, duration of the episode, precipitating factors, and aura, which is a sensory hallucination experienced prior to a seizure. Seizures are usually not life threatening, however, knowing the proper procedures or…
