Avigail's Factual Narrative

Great Essays
It was Avigail’s thirteenth birthday and her first day of eighth year at school. She lives in a society centered around books that also values uniformity. She joined her classmates, all named one of six names, but shocked her teacher and the other kids when she wanted to be more unique, requesting the nickname Avi and questioning why they had to study the same book for her entire primary education. Both were traditions that had been used for years that everyone complied to. Her friends and classmates didn't see her the same way anymore, but she still thought there needed to be a change in tradition. At the end of the day, a boy named Ryker passed Avi a note agreeing with her and proposing that they team up to make a change.

Avi decided that when she got to school, she would talk to Ryker. It didn’t seem smart to shock her teacher and classmates two days in a row, so Avi decided that they should wait until after Thanksgiving break to do anything out of the ordinary if they could help it. She didn’t want to get into too much trouble, she had always been a good student after all.
As she was thinking about what they could do when it seemed safe to take action again, she smelled something burning. Avi looked down at the pan in front of her and saw the pancake that she was making absentmindedly had been burned and blackened. She really had to start paying more attention, especially at school with her teacher who expected a lot of Avi and was probably already a bit suspicious of her.

When Avi arrived at school, she walked into her classroom to see Ryker already standing awkwardly near her desk. She walked over and set down her bag before saying to Ryker, “Hey, what’s up?”, as if she had no idea what he might want to talk
