Avatar takes place in 2154. A crippled young veteran Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) replaces his twin brother who was one of the scientists to begun exploring the Pandora planet with avatar. Pandora is a place which has expensive minerals called “unobtanium”; which is believed to solve earth’s problem by bringing money to humans. In Pandora where living aliens called the Na’vi. They have their own god, language and a different way of living and different appearance. The Na’vi people worship Eywa. They also have a connection to the roots of the home tree called the tree of soul; they believe that a person can be healed if he or she connects himself to the tree. Avatar was then realized in December 18, 2009 with a budget of 238 Million Dollars (“Themes”). Avatar was clearly a passion project for James Cameron, a storied director with a best of blockbuster films to wait that long to fully realize a project he had conceived so long before is not just indicative of a person who was waiting for the right technology to come by. It’s a clear indicator of a filmmaker who had a message to put out to the world. Based on my reading and research, it is widely acknowledged that Mr. Cameron intended to touch on many themes in this film. Some regard this as a virtue of the work, whereas others criticize it as being too sprawling and trying to address many different issues. “ many people suggested that the film has several common themes as the misunderstanding between human beings and the environment; aspects of development, racialism, and loyalty ; corporate greed and property appropriation, and, most controversially, religion and spirituality” (“Themes”). In my opinion, the film does try to address these common themes to a great extent, even if different people may differ on what the film chooses to say about those themes. “Commentators have debated whether the
