The anthology starts off with the story “The Express” where a group of friends, Pat, Charlie, Eric and Mike who decide celebrate this Halloween at a crash site, where 49 train passengers died in a horrible derailing accident.

In a short story it is not necessary to have a complete character development but enough that the reader is able to form a clear or almost clear picture of them. But, in some of the case there is no picture, no introduction the characters simply appear from thin air. This is the case in “The Express”, you believe that there are only two people in the car but as they reach their destination it turns out that there was actually four people, which made it feel as if they were thrown into the story at the last minute because the author felt the story needed more characters, which made them poorly developed and had no use in advancing the story. The story would have been much better if it was just Charlie and Pat. Though a lot of the stories had a great basis to make an amazing story, the direction the author went with them made them lack a good climax, or a conflict for the characters to face making the stories a very dull read. An example of this is “Cold Mutton Soup” which was neither scary nor funny but instead stupid, and boring and in my opinion should have been left out of the anthology completely yet in had a really good basis for an amazing and terrifying
