Autum Autumn Paramore In Dancing At Luughnasa

Improved Essays
In Dancing at Lughnasa, an adult Michael narrates the story of one of his childhood summers, set in the house where he grew up, raised by his single mother, four aunts, a mentally sick uncle, and a father who occasionally dropped by. Although Michael, played by Wyn Moreno, is the main character, he was merely a voice on the stage. Moreno stood to the side, reciting the lines of a young Michael, whose presence was only implied by the other actors. Moreno had a very powerful voice with great projection. He did have a deep voice, but he played his part well and he was able to make it believable that he was young Michael. Kate, played by Victoria Sasso, is the eldest sister and is a strict, devout Catholic. I felt indifferent to Sasso’s acting, but I do believe in the saying that if an actor can make you hate their character, then they’re doing their job right, and from all the sisters, Kate was my least favorite one. …show more content…
Throughout the play, Paramore would recite jokes and make fun except in her monologue, where she was very serious and contemplative. I could feel the emotion in both “versions” of Maggie, making Paramore’s acting seem very genuine. Agnes, played by Tamara Veres-Vailant, is the most quiet of the sisters. I also felt indifferent to Veres-Vailant’s acting, but she did make it clear that Agnes had a little bit of a crush on Gerry, which I believe is the one of the most important parts about Veres-Vailant’s character. Rose, played by Shellie Sterling, is the sister who talked back to Kate the most. I have a younger sister, so I felt that the way Sterling talked back to Sasso was very similar to the way my sister talks back to me. In my opinion, Rose’s most important scene was when she comes back home from her date with Danny Bradley. Sterling could work on this scene a bit more because I was very confused at what emotion her character was feeling in the

The Last Night of Ballyhoo was a play well done by the ensemble at the Quintero theatre for several reasons. The costumes, lighting, set, body language, and music all played a role in the development of the play and conveying the theme of anti-Semitism internalized in the Jewish community and to embrace one's heritage despite the hardships that one may face. The protagonist - Sunny- and antagonist of the play- Boo- displayed their motives well through the delivery of dialogue, therefore their motivations were clear. As part of the audience, I believe the best actor was Reba played by Lauren Ufkes and the least captivating to watch was Peachy played by Troy Beckman due to a few reasons. The theme of The Last Night of Bayllyhoo that I gathered…

Tarra Kooker Assignment 10 While reading the play “August: Osage County” the readers encounter many compelling and interesting characters. The character that seemed to be one of the most important and prominent in the play was the mother, Violet. Violet expressed many different emotions throughout the play, most being negative, but as the play continued to develop it is discovered that perhaps she wasn’t inherently a bad person. It can be argued that Violet was not an antagonist in the play, but was instead formed to be that way. Violet’s character was an abusive addict that drove her family out of her life, but I believe that she had no choice in her behavior, that her past experiences made her that way.…

Stephen Crane characterized the characters of the novel through their actions and interactions with other characters during the story. Such as Jimmie, from the opening scene it was obvious he was violent and did not care much for rules and even his own safety. In the opening fight scene Stephen Crane wrote,“In the yells of the whirling mob of Devil’s Row children there were notes of joy like songs of triumphant savagery. The little boys seemed to leer gloatingly at the blood upon the other child’s face”(4). This quote shows that Jimmie was a violent fighter who was almost animal-like in his viciousness.…

In the short story, “Everyday Use” by Alice Walker, she develops her characters in the story by using a sense of rejection to bring out who they truly are. When someone feels as they aren’t welcome and aren’t the same, it can push them to pursue something different or want to change how they are perceived. Although not all of the characters in the story changed, but they all have felt denial and disdain, in one form or another. I believe Alice Walker used this sense of rejection to show how the characters really felt and show their development into who they became.…

With a passing glance, one would think that Maggie is simply a side character who plays very little role in the story as a whole, but this cannot be further from the truth. Maggie is absolutely central to the conflict of the story, and she has a profound effect on the actions of other characters within the story and the story’s theme. Maggie’s effect on the actions of Twyla and Roberta is shown in how both remember Maggie and the event in the orchard in completely different ways.…
