The ones I have chosen to focus on are autonomy and social justice. Autonomy is found in both the values and ethics. It gives the patient the right to self-determination (Finkelman & Kenner, 2014, p.175). As a nurse, it will be my duty to respect a patient’s beliefs and choices regardless of what I believe. If they do not want a certain procedure, I will have to respect that completely. Social justice is to ensure everyone receives fair treatment regardless of any label society categorizes them in (Finkelman & Kenner, 2014, p.175). Therefore, no matter what I believe, I will not carry that into my work. If someone needs help, I will provide care without judgement.
Nursing Practice Challenges
At the beginning of the quarter I was unsure what would be the hardest challenges for me. However, with the help of this course, I have come to realize that autonomy and cultural humility may present a challenge. Now that I am aware of this, I will be able to work on them
