I live in Cornwall where my older sister, Kayla, and brother, Jeremy, have left me living as an only child with, my parents, Paul and Paula. Some hobbies of mine include spending time with my friends and family, playing sports and running. Growing up I was a part of many clubs such as ballet and piano lessons, but it wasn’t until I joined my first soccer team that my parents quickly recognized where my interests were. Since I was little I have played on multiple sports teams such as, the provincial and Canada Games soccer teams, the women’s AAA hockey team and the Bluefield rugby team. This year I was happy to be a member of the UPEI Women’s soccer team, which was such a great experience …show more content…
I myself have found this shift of learning very difficult as I learn best while listening and watching others. Looking at the “Seven Characteristics of Autonomous Learners” I can quickly pick out my weakness. The sixth characteristic really stood out to me, “Autonomous learners us effective learning strategies and adapt those strategies to new situations”, I believe that everyone learns differently and that means everyone has different studying techniques that they use to ensure success, but this can be frustrating because I have not yet found the best studying strategy to benefit me. Number three, “Autonomous learners set realistic and appropriate goals for academic achievement”, is the trait that most reflects my strength as an autonomous learner. I find goal setting very important and I think that everyone should set a goal, whether it be big or small, to motivate and to push you to pursue what truly makes you happy. I hope that through persistence and hard work I am able to achieve my goals and build my future to be just what I want it to

The Tournoi International de Hockey is the biggest youth hockey tournament in North America and is held each year in Quebec City, Canada. Every year thousands of kids ages 10-12 come to this tournament, and I was fortunate to be one of the selected players from Georgia to play in this tournament. Through this two week tournament, I got the chance to stay with a family from Quebec and experience what they do on a daily basis. With this family, whom I am still in contact with today, I learned a new culture, got to tour the city and have some memories that I will never forget. To add to the experience, all the games were played the Pepsi Colisee, which is a NHL sized rink.…

Three learning theories that will be addressed in this discussion are as follows, self-directed and optimized, transformative, and critical reflection. Chen (2014) investigates “adult learners are self-directed and their learning is optimized when their experience is recognized and utilized in the learning process” (p. 407). Adult students are not 'clear slates' and their background turns into the medium through which substance is found out and in which to rethink new objectives to achieve (Chen, 2014). Self-directed is appropriate for an adult due to the connection that is made with their life experiences, the adult is able to plan and implement learning based upon their desire and initiation to learn. Self-directed is inappropriate for children because children rely upon the teacher as the caretaker to their education and implementation of it.…

As an athlete, I began my journey in sports full of dedication, fire, and hopeful anticipation of what I could do on the football field and on the basketball court. Much of my life has been devoted to extracurricular activities such as sports and the comelec, which taught me hard lessons in ethics and values that have made me who I am today. I not only represented my school varsity, but also sports clubs outside of school, which led me to compete in several local and international tournaments. As well as my passion for sports, I grew into my passion for service; service for others and for my school, partaking in clubs and community service activities, each endeavor playing a role in the development of my abilities and expansion of my potential…

Growing up in the United States the individualistic goals of our society are incredibly apparent. The whole premise of the American Dream is to do well for yourself, to raise your own family in your own home with your own car. But this dream that we have built for ourselves lacks depth and longevity. It is a simplistic, selfish, and senseless ambition. I believe, as human beings, we desire more than to help ourselves.…

As a child, I was raised amongst an athletic family where sports were always a priority within our household. From a young age, I was trained to play at the highest level and to be competitive in everything I engaged in. Although, when I was younger I participated in many sports, I had a strong passion for baseball. A passion for baseball that took me to the next level over and over again, until the next move was university baseball down south. I was never a sporty kid. For the majority of my childhood, my hobbies have included reading, playing video games, and other generic nerd activities. If you had asked me if I wanted to play a sport, I would have laughed at the prospect, so I surprised even myself when I answered yes to my mother’s inquiry about joining my school’s new flag football team. I worried about it for the weeks leading up to the first practice, but eventually I decided “Why not? It may end up being fun.”…
