With self-driving cars, the ownership and use of the vehicle would be similar to a taxi system. Researchers from the University of Austin Texas has found that if all the cars in the US were driverless, one driverless car could replace 11 conventional automobiles. On the simulation that they have developed, an average rider would have to wait about 18 seconds for their driverless car to arrive to pick them up, each vehicle would serve around between 30 and 40 people on a daily basis. This method allows for more efficient usage of the vehicles through a shared system that still allows each individual to have access to the vehicles as needed.
