Before automobiles, people were accustomed to using horses to get around, which were safer but definitely not as fast as cars. An automobile typically has four wheels and can hold 1-6 people, depending on the vehicle. Cars that use gasoline are powered by an engine that allows it to move and can vary in size and power. Gas is not the most cost effective or the least polluting, but it is accessible and the most reliable. Our society depends on these gas-powered vehicles for transportation of any kind, whether it 's driving across the country or just going to the corner store. Henry Ford once said: "You can have any color as long as it 's black,” which was funny to me, but true at the time. Instead of having to ride around in a black Model T, nowadays vehicles are fully customizable and allows you to choose the color and the type you want. Electric cars run off a battery that doesn 't last but around 150 miles, which isn 't far compared to the average gas powered car. With a gas powered car, all you need to do is refuel at a gas station and you’re ready to go; whereas in an electric car you have to wait for it to charge at home or at one of the limited charging stations …show more content…

Gasoline is a non-renewable resource and at some point in the future it will run out, unlike electricity. There are multiple car companies producing electric cars, like Tesla and BMW. These two car companies specialize in making electric cars that are luxurious and fast, which some thought was not possible; instead of having to sacrifice speed to save the environment, you can have both. Autonomous cars are another technology of the future. Currently, there is a self-driving car manufactured by Google that doesn 't even have pedals or a steering wheel! This is a small vehicle made to carry two people from one destination to another, like a “mini taxi.” The safety of the Google car is questionable to some, due to it being operated by a computer that has the life of it 's passengers in it 's
