As stated in the paper it will allow elderly individuals to stay inside their homes instead of moving into a nursing home, or paying an enormous amount of money to have a stay at home caregiving. The autominder simply acts like a stay at home caregiving in watching over the individual and making sure they perform their daily routines. However for this artificial intelligence I believe this is one system would not be beneficial for society. First people will loose their jobs as caregivers. Second the autominder cannot complete every task a human may be able to perform. For instance what if the elderly individual had a heart attack under supervision of the autominder, would the machine be able to perform CPR, or call 911. I also believe that the elderly individual would ignore the machine. People initially respond better to other individuals, for instance if my alarm clock goes off I can simply ignore it, but if my roommate went to wake me up, I would have more of a chance of actually getting up and listing to them. In addition people also need comfort and support throughout the day, the autominder is just a computer system with a set schedule and alarms, therefore people may not believe it is helping them. It may be useful to do other tasks for individuals with full working memories, who just need little reminders to perform certain task.
