This is usually done in the high school years and is from a conversation or curiosity of what others are doing or talking about doing.
Teenagers feel many emotions at this transition. They feel anxious, confused, pressured, and even worried. It is very important that youth ministers learn to take the time to help their adolescent youth in the communities as well as in the congregation. Their job has a combination of handling the physical, mental, and most importantly the spiritual side of adolescence. The physical portion that youth minsters have to pay close attention to is physical state of the youth. How are they relating to others and what is their emotional state when dealing with their peers.
The mental state that youth minister have to handle also can play into the emotional side that was discussed. They have to try and understand what is really going on in the mind of the youth and not judging them for it. Religion and faith is one of the toughest topics to speak to teenagers about because most have a basic understanding of right and wrong. They understand if you do bad things you go to Hell or if you do what the bible said you go to Heaven based off the religion and your faith. As, a youth minister should be well aware of; you should not throw the bible at every situation that comes up. The bible is to help the teenagers with their spiritual growth, but they must first understand the difference in the spiritual and physical parts of life.
There needs to be steps to introducing teenagers to the love of Christ through activities and communication. Just, as they use stories and testimonials to relate to situations in school, this method is very effective when bringing someone to the love of Christ. The book I read for my second report is called Your First Two Years in Youth Ministry by Doug Fields. I found this book to be very practical and encouraging. At multiple points throughout the book, Fields challenges the readers attitude. He forces the reader to re-evaluate their own situation. Fields portrays a humbleness, but I also found him straight forward, he cut to the point.…

John Wesley has had a primary influence on my discernment of God’s calling in my life to pastoral ministry. What drew me to personally further my knowledge of the great founder and theologian of the Methodist denomination was his life and preaching of “love” and “grace”. John Wesley is known for encouraging people to enter into a personal intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. I felt God’s calling into pastoral ministry as a very young boy who looked on with admiration as I watched my father successfully lead and ignite the faith of others as the pastor in the United Methodist Church. At 16 years of age at a United Methodist summer church camp, my own faith was ignited.…

My main goal is to shape young people into disciples filled with Bible knowledge and to help send them out in the world to witness to the unsaved. I plan to do this by combining the discipleship model and the ministry model talked about by Richard R. Dunn in his book, “Reaching A Generation For Christ”. He states that the philosophy of the discipleship model as, “The discipleship model trains students to be God’s people in an ungodly world, equipped with Bible study and prayer skills developed in a caring atmosphere with a view to reproducing their Christian lives in other” (175). This philosophy would be fulfilled by small groups or “trainings” held on a weekly basis. I would like to keep a very close, relational youth group.…

Pete Ward and his training centre, Oxford Youthworks, were largely responsible in the UK for the resurgences towards the incarnational theological approach in youth ministry in the 1990s. His view could be summarised simply enough as be like Jesus by being with young people. The incarnational theological approach influences this perspective in two ways: 1.…

Over time it has appeared to be that the perception of Christianity is growing more and more negative. From recent studies and research done by Gabe Lyons and David Kinnaman also president of the Barna group, has found that two in five young people possess negative views of Christianity (Kinnaman, David. " Unchristian”.) After hearing this the big questions that come up are the what, who and why of this problem. There is a growing negative perception of Christianity among young adults; however, research indicates that Churches who take a Biblical approach, by attempting to understand the culture of the young adults and accepting their different perspectives are making strides to grow their congregations.…

The Benefits of Bible Quiz As Christian raised children finish elementary school and graduate to middle school and high school, they may find that they would rather spend time with their friends or have free time than reading and studying the Word of God. Having grown up in Sunday School learning Bible stories like Jonah and the Whale and Daniel in the Lion’s Den, many young adults think they know all about the Bible. However, the Bible contains many more stories and ideas not taught in Sunday School that help us as we grow. We cannot get by on basic Bible stories that we have heard over and over again.…
