Her stories were a bit self-congratulatory and the quotes she used did not connect with me either. I was happy to pass the book along after I finished it to someone who, found the author an inspiration and wanted a copy of the book for herself” (Oct,…
The plot of The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton, is quite interesting because it gives the reader a sense of what it was like to be a fourteen year old boy that belongs to a group that is known as the outsiders of society. I chose this book because I am a teenager, and this book is about a real life teenager struggling with what is right and wrong in society. This story takes in the Southwest United States sometime during the 1960’s. Ponyboy Curtis is the main character in the story. He is a fourteen year old greaser.…
In many ways, That Was Then, This Is Now is a sequel to The Outsiders. It sets in the 1960s in a bad part of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Because Mark’s parents killed each other in a drunken fight seven years before, Mark Jennings, fifteen, has been living with Bryon Douglas and his mother. While at the hospital visiting his mom, Bryon also meets Cathy, M&M’s older sister who has just returned from private school. Not too long after, violence erupts again.…
The Outsiders by author S.E. Hinton withholds many life lessons, one of them being that fighting doesn't solve your problems. This story follows the lifestyles of the hoods on the east side of a small town in Oklahoma during the 60s. These hoods are called Greasers and are viewed like this because of their rebellious attitudes, disrespectful criminal behaviors, slicked hair, and poor economic status. The teens of this town are separated by money and lifestyles these guys have a tough life and they have to struggle meanwhile on the west side live the Socs who are proud and loaded with more money than they could ever ask for. The Socs are defined as rich, poised, madras wearing and mustang driving instigators who get everything handed to…
Sade Adu once said “I think you only really feel like an outsider if you’ve been an insider.” S.E. Hinton thinks that the greasers are outsiders. In the book The Outsiders people only think of greasers as no good J.D. hoods when they are real people with real problems. Randy stands out from other Socs because he is less violent and he shows his emotions. First and foremost, randy is less violent than other Socs.…
How can one simply alter another's life? There is a novel called The Outsiders, and was written by S.E. Hinton, to partly show that anyone can write an intriguing book. In the book, the main protagonist is called Ponyboy, who is a “greaser” as stated in chapter one, “but I am a greaser” (Hinton 1). Some of the choices made by Dally, Darry, and Soda affect Pony’s life, how he sees himself, and relationships with his brothers.…
Have you ever thought about what life in the 60’s? Well if yes then let Francis Ford Coppola’s movie of The Outsiders take you there. A book written by S.E. Hinon is called The Outsiders. When choosing a side it can be very difficult. In the book The Outsiders the Socs and Greasers are from different parts of town, and although they don’t really get along they have many similarities, and differences. From their wealth and potential, what they have, and view of themselves they have more likenesses than differences. The wealth and potential is a big part in the outsiders. Both have some type of potential in their lives.…

The Outsiders As a class we had read the book, “The Outsiders.” Overall, I contemplate the book was superior and it was very fascinating. The book was set in Oklahoma and that’s where we live, so that was awesome. Also, I liked most of the characters in the book and some of it was relatable.…
The character that I chose from The Outsiders is Darrel Curtis. Also known as Darry. In my opinion, Darry is a positive character most of the time. However, he gets frustrated and angry from time to time because he has no experience in being a parent and he is trying his best. The best three ways to describe Darry is that he is Hard working/Responsible, protective and sometimes can be strict.…
The Outsiders Essay If someone completely opposite to you called you a disgrace to society, would you say the same to them? In S.E. Hinton’s novel, The Outsiders, greasers are considered a disgrace to society because of their insufficient housing and their lack of money to afford things that the socs have. Though the greasers are poor, they love each other like a family. The socs, on the other hand, do not really “love” each other.…
In the book, the outsiders, S.E. Hinton describes many interesting characters throughout the novel, but the one I found most interesting was Darry Curtis due the fact that he is very misunderstood. When Darry is with the gang or with his brothers he comes off as very tough and mean, but we find out later in the book that he does have feelings on the inside. In the beginning of the book, we find out that the Curtis brother's parents died in a car crash and left Darry to support the family. Because of of this, he was forced to act more like an adult.…
