I am Shelby Cope and I am from the Early College here on Campus. I have little experience with music. I do know how to read music and sing. I participated in chorus all throughout middle school. During this time our school’s band and chorus traveled to Seaworld and performed for the guest. I have also participated in my church's youth choir, general choir, praise team, and assisted in leading the children's choir this year. Otherwise I know a few keys on the piano and as of right now I am attempting to learn how to play the guitar. I have a wide variety of music I like to listen to. For instance, some of my favorite artists are Florence and the machines, Frank Sinatra, My Chemical Romance, and Vivaldi. My mother raised me on classic rock

As a child who grew up in a household that encouraged a broad mind and colorful imagination, it was only natural that I developed eclectic tastes. Sometimes I enjoy sitting in the living room with my father, listening to old, crackly jazz music; I compete with my family while watching Jeopardy every night. Even more than that, I adore East Asian culture and I’m frequently immersed in its music, television shows, and food. It’s an odd combinations of interests, but it is what I love. I tend to read books that explore people’s relationships with both their environment and each other.…

As a child growing up with a mother who loves 80’s pop music, I remember sitting in the back of the car dreading the songs, I was about five years old and I didn’t understand why I did not like everybody have fun tonight, and other cheesy songs from that time period, the only ones I did care for where Phil Collins, Journey, and Bryan Adams. I enjoyed music that had a rock theme behind it, I loved guitar solos and now as an adult, I appreciate high notes coming from the lead singer of Journey. My mom pointed out as a child she knew I would be into rock music just by the way I would get excited if I saw it on tv, and when I was 14 she took me to my first rock concert which was Green Day, she thought she was going to hate the whole show, but…

According to Rentfrow and Gosling (2003), Raymond Bernard Cattell was one of the first to theorize that information about aspects of personality could be revealed by an individual’s preferences for specific genres of music. Previous researchers believed that music preference was more the result of explicit traits of one’s personality, while Cattell claimed it allowed for a look into the unconscious (Rentfrow & Gosling, 2003). As research progressed over time, more insight began to occur within the daily life behaviors conducted by people. With a better understanding of these factors came an increased curiosity as to what potential individual differences could account for the variety in not only musical taste, but also other preferences people…
