I’m writing on behalf of Jose Luis Ayala’s application to your university program. All my experiences with Joey are as a student in my PAP and AP Physics class at Weslaco East High School from 2016 to the present.

As a physics student, Joey has shown an aptitude for science and mathematics. He can solve physics problems in a clear, systematic and logical way, being patient, careful and accurate with his solutions. Joey is also meticulous in doing his experiments and collecting data and always aiming to get accurate and reliable results. Also, his science journal is well written and organized. He finds time to read and understand the assigned chapter in his book and would patiently write notes on his journal. He is friendly and gets along well with everyone especially with his lab partner. Joey also invests time and effort with his projects and they always come out as one of the best in his class.

This can attest to his ability to do long hours of community service but still get good grades in advanced classes. He is involved in these outreach programs as a maintenance crew, office clerk, and an event and fundraiser organizer. This shows that he could be a good follower as well as a good leader. This leadership skill is very evident in class too, as he always takes the initiative to spearhead discussions and activities. In school, he is involved in a number of extra-curricular activities and has been recognized through the years for his participation and excellence. His academic years are truly spent wisely, fruitfully and effectively since this exposure to music and band competitions and UIL academics will likely prepare him for the rigors of college life. Joey is a driven, ambitious, focused, determined and hardworking young

In the article, "Henry Rodriguez: Preserving the Luiseño Tradition," Rodriguez talks about how oral tradition keep stories "alive and changing over time. " Just for example, Rodriguez mentions a story about a "powerful song given" to him by an old man, and it was later on collected as "sets," as more elderly men are willing to share their songs. As a result, it created a bigger content of songs, having a far more interpretation of a subject. Just like in oral tradition, stories accumulate, it continues to grow resulting in multiple meanings over time. On the other hand, written tradition ends a story, having a fixed and permanent meaning that cannot be changed.…

The Story of Pedro Serrano, as told by el Inca, Garcilaso de la Vega, had a deep impact on me. More specifically, the part that was most was the first interaction between Serrano, the main character, and the other unnamed survivor that was introduced halfway through the short story. Serrano had been stranded on the island for three years and had acquired hair all over—so much so, that it was compared by de la Vega to “an animal’s pelt.” The new survivor on the island was still dressed as a normal Spanish sailor, whereas Serrano had seemed to morph into a different person all together—one who was as mentally unstable as he was physically. When these two very different characters met for the first time, they were both shocked.…
