J & P Auto Wrecking INC dba Long Island Exports No other dba's were reported. The insured is owner and has operated an automobile recycling yard here for the prior 15+ years. Vehicles are towed to the yard by others, dismantled and the parts are sold for use in other vehicles or as scrap. Business operates during daylight hours 6 days. There are 3 FT workers register on a weekly payroll. Maintenance and housekeeping for this location is considered satisfactory. Insured has purchased coverage for a Toyota Forklift Caterpillar & Hyundai HL 757-9 Wheel Loader for use in daily operations. I inspected these units during our visit. They are in good condition and were operational at that time.
Risk is an exclusively in used and replacement car parts, for Foreign and American made automobiles suv and crossover. J & P Auto Wrecking, they carry engines, transmissions, transaxles and other drive train components, as well as interior and exterior body parts and accessories; i.e. alternators, computers, control modules, head lights, tail lights, bumpers, doors, fenders, antennas, stereos, radios, struts, shocks, starters, radiators, and auto glass etc... Formal background checks in company policy. Majority of employees are of English and Spanish speaking background therefore shop is bilingual. Training varies with each employee trained on each new piece of equipment as they are promoted to operate that piece of equipment. All training is on the job and there is close supervision by the owner. The owner does conduct a 15-minute weekly safety meeting. There is a formal, written Hazard Communication Standard training program. All observed equipment was properly guarded. The risk has a formal lock out/ tag out program.
