Auto Racing Case Study
In the present day of competitive auto racing, the drivers have become the stars of the sporting event. However, behind the driver's success, two groups exist, formal and informal that enables smooth running of the racing cars, Formula one, and NASCAR. The case study looks at how the auto racing team is involved in ensuring the success of the auto racing drivers without much recognition.
A racing team always possesses both traits of the formal and informal group. The formal group has the primary objective of ensuring that the whole group forms a formidable force that functions optimally as one to ensure they win the race. The formal groups comprise of sets of individuals each with specific role to ensure effective and efficient team operation. The various forms of professional auto racing such as car racing, Formula One , and NASCAR uses a different formal group of teamwork structures, but teamwork is the common denominator (McKay, 2012).
Each has specific role to play in operation and direction of the car when racing. An excellent formal team knows teamwork will always raise the chances of success. The formal group comprises of the drivers, mechanics, fabricators, and aerodynamic experts.
The informal group in the racing team has an informal relationship with the formal group that supports each other in various roles of their responsibilities. For instance, every person performing a specific task during the racing day would ensure there is sufficient communication with others offering different functions that form an informal group case scenario in the racing team (Garrison, 2016). Both formal and informal group thus support the racing team to win the race. The racing team is involved in various decision-making due to different cases they encounter during the sporting event. The manager is the authorizing body that is in charge of calling for team practice in different junctures of the sport due to either change in racing formation or safety concerns of the team. For instance, a minority rule used in decision making in situations where the driver is deciding how and when to overtake a racing car in front of him in the racing track. An arrangement of racing schedule, on the other hand, may require majority rule to be made by the team (Williamson, 2017). In cases where the team conflict after the authority rule stands, they are engaged in consensus dialogue whereby various alternatives move forward. The best choice chosen in favor of majority, then implemented. The rule of unanimity decision is determined where each team member is given equal opportunity to express his view on the matter at hand and finally agree with the same resolution in unison (Williamson, 2017). The rule of unanimity is considered to be the best especially on the arrangement of racing events. Therefore, the auto racing thus requires teamwork for the effectiveness in winning the various motor races. In auto racing, the driver is just one of the member of the more extensive team who follows the various decisions made by the informal group. When watching racing sports especially Formula
