Six-year-old Scott exhibits behaviors that are stereotypically common with symptoms of ASD. This is evidence is his inability to self regulate his emotions with behaviors lasting in intervals from 5 minutes to as long as 2 hours. Scott’s sleep disturbances are endemic with children with ASD. “Studies have estimated the prevalence of sleep disturbance as 40% to 80% in children with ASD, compared with 20% to 40% in typically developing (TD) children”(Margret et al., 2009, para.1).
