Household cleaning labels tend to fail to provide the information needed to caution the consumer on the harmful effects it will take on their wellbeing. According to the article “Connection Between Prenatal Exposure to Household Toxic Chemicals and Autism?” Goldbas states “There is increasing evidence which indicates the possibility that fetal exposure to toxic environmental chemicals may be one of the many contributing factors implicated in the development of autism” (Golbas 63) One needs to be conscience about their environment and the household chemicals one is using to clean their home. This implies that the developing fetal infant brain is affected by the chemicals that we comfortably use on a daily basis to keep our houses clean. Nowadays we use and are exposed to many chemicals that did not exist before. Children and pregnant women are the most vulnerable and are being exposed to chemicals that are in personal care products, lead and asbestos, cleaning products, the exhaust of motor vehicles, and amongst many more. Our bodies are being affected unconsciously as we live and breathe these harmful chemicals that make up the environment we live …show more content…
We humans are creating more and more hazardous chemicals that are harming our wellbeing and also those of the unborn. “Dioxins cause birth defects, immune system damage and cancer. Dioxins are found in commonly used laundry detergents, liquid soaps, and window cleaners.” (Goldbas 66) Laundry detergents and liquid soaps are frequently used products that are needed for hygiene. The more fragrance the product has, the more toxic and harmful it is to our bodies. “…nothing was found which stated dioxins were not toxic.” (Goldbas 67) The government is not providing enough information to its people on what is hazardous to the body. Even on labels that do provide it, the wording is convoluted and may not be understood by all. Toxic chemicals are recognized as harmful to the developing fetal brain. There has been a connection between environmental chemicals and ASD, especially with pregnant women, who are exposed to or take chemicals during pregnancy. Awareness and prevention can help tomorrow’s future. “…the steps we take to protect our health can prevent prenatal risks from becoming reality.” (Berk and Meyers
