Years of research as proven that the best interventions/treatments for children with autism need to be scientific in nature. This was no different with Reeve, Reeve, Townsend and Poulson (2007) in their intervention for children with autism to learn a new skills. In the research study presented, they were interested in teaching positive social behavior in the form of helping behavior. For this purpose of this paper, I’ll identify the independent variables, dependent variables and the extraneous variable that were associated with the study.
Dependent Variable, This is the targeted behavior of a treatment. The target behavior as according to Reeve, et., al (2007) were cleaning, replacing broke material, picking up objects, sorting materials,

In other words behaviors that are not the study but can act as a distraction to the children. Other extraneous variable could be, for example, when the experimenter and children are working in the trial, a child make a squeaky sound that pull the attention away from the task or the sudden truck horn blown outside the window. For this study most of the extraneous variables may have presented itself the discriminative pieces. For example, when wiping the table, the sensory of the soapy water against a child’s finger, or the popping of the bubbles could be a distraction.
Upon observation of myself, I the tendency to get annoyed when, the kitchen sink is not emptied. I get real irritated to the point where I will shout. One of the antecedent I know is that if I see a cup on the coffee table, the possibility exists that there will be an unemptied sink. I did observe over time, that, whenever the children are running late for the school bus, whatever is in their hands, automatically head towards the coffee table (saw it with my own eyes). So, as a dutiful mother I would clean up after them before I leave for work and so say, there are stuff in the sink to be put away. Then I start to shout about the dirty sink, with no one around to respond to

Based on anecdotal recordings, it was hypothesized that the function of John’s frequent off-task behaviors were attention. For example, John would frequently raise his hand, leave his seat, and call his teacher’s name simultaneously. The teacher would then provide John attention by asking him what he needed help with or notifying him that other students are working. Therefore, the target behavior for John was be on-task behavior. A variety of factors and influences can affect a child’s interactions in a group setting. Often, accommodations made within the classroom setting can help to support a child who is struggling with maintaining acceptable behavior. Other times, a student may require a more structured behavior intervention plan to provide a unified approach to support the student in the classroom setting. Some of the elements that could impact a child’s ability to interact appropriately in an educational setting include long-term influences such as a child’s cognitive functioning, and their developmental profile. Other aspects of life that could affect the child’s behavior may be short-term such as moving to a new home, loosing a family pet, and/or a minor illness…

Johnny exhibits inappropriate behaviors such as biting students and pinching the teacher as a method for seeking attention. He also disrupts the successful learning of peers by yelling out and laughing during one-to-one instruction. A behavioral intervention plan and supports must be implemented to design replacement behaviors and reinforce acceptable alternatives. One type of observation that used for measuring observable behaviors is event recording. Aggression, such as biting and pinching are readily observable and discrete (Volpe, McConaughy, & Hintze, 2009).…
