Autism Internship Statement

The agency I’m placed in is a non-profit daycare and preschool. The goals of the agency is to help the children and the parents, you learn their strengths and needs and build on that, you provide them with resources that can strengthen their current situation. The exact role we was given was a Family Worker. Some responsibilities listed are being responsible for recruiting applicants for childcare and family services, to decided eligibility, maintaining necessary records, making calls to appropriate agencies needed, and generally working with families. I myself though help the family workers that are teaching a class that day. My task and responsibilities differ, one day you can be very hands on with the family and the kids. All different ages, races, etc. It’s not specifically centered on one group. I can get an outside view of how children act and correspond in an educational environment. I can see how the kids interact with their teachers and their classmates. I can see how the parents and teachers interact as well. Being in a school environment works perfect with my career goal because that’s exactly what I want to do but with children with disabilities. I know working with children that have autism will be in a smaller environment but this current environment will teach me how to handle more than one kid and a larger group of children. I think the most challenging thing for me would be what the agency expects from me, I’m treated like an actual worker and not an intern and I wouldn't want to make any mistakes, or let anyone down. I’m most excited about hopefully working in the classroom setting alone and actually trying to teach the children. I believe the internship placement is going to proceed very well. I feel as if every week I will learn something new, something that will benefit me and my future dreams. I will feel successful when I finish my
