I would like to think I am an open-minded person. I am a Democrat. I believe women should be able to do what they want with their bodies, so they have the right to have abortions. Although I personally would never, other women should be free to do so. I believe gun control should be up to each state, but I don’t like the average Texan stance on guns. I don’t have a reason to use marijuana, but some people do. Legalizing it could help a lot of people who are sick and suffering. Immigration is great, but border security could be improved to keep the criminals out, and to make sure everyone coming in is coming in legally. I’m not sure what I think about free college yet, because it kind of seems like it would ruin everything. If everyone …show more content…
Basically right in the middle, only to the left -0.13. I am a little below the middle of the authoritarian/libertarian line. More on the libertarian side, at -2.41. I would agree with my results. I believe in the freedom of Libertarians. The idea of economic freedom, political freedom, and freedom of choice. I can also see how I am close to the Authoritarian side, because people do need rules and regulations. There has to be someone or something in charge. People need to be held accountable when they do wrong. We need a leader to follow, a leader to handle the big things. Authority is an important part of society, without it the world would be chaotic. I’m not sure where the line is drawn in the perfect society. I don’t know how much freedom should be allowed, or how much control the government should have to make everything run smoothly and make everyone happy. I found the part on the website that shows where the 2016 presidential candidates are on the graph, and I think its interesting that if I look at where I am, and where they are, I am closer to Jill Stein. It’s interesting because I am voting for Hillary Clinton. She looks like a right-wing

When one opens up a newspaper, magazine or their favorite news channel they might not realize that each source has an agenda. I can probably make an educated guess on your political ideologies based on what sources you read on a consistent basis. Fox News, in particular has been accused by numerous of academic and political figures of having various biases in their news coverage as well as perpetuating more extensive views of a conservative bias. In Bill O’Reilly news segment, “Black Lives is Killing Americans,” he scrutinizes the Black Lives Matters movement and argues that protesting against police brutality and violence perpetrated by the police makes them responsible for all of the gun violence and deaths in America. He uses harsh language…

A tyrannical government is a government that exercises power in a cruel way. A lot of countries have a tyrannical government such as North Korea. When America was first “discovered” by the colonists, it too had a tyrannical government run by Britain, Britain was taking away most if not all of their rights. This caused the colonists to start a revolution so they could gain their rights back. They won, causing the constitution to be born.…

I believe that when I enrolled in PHIL 150, I acted freely. This is not to say that I acted in a way in which I controlled everything as there are external forces that could have taken place that swayed my decision of choosing PHIL 150, however, I simply state that the final decision was made by me after taking into account what the course entailed and if or not I 'd enjoy it. I will elaborate on my answer using the following three arguments; Determinism, Libertarianism and Compatibilism. Well first before I talk about these three positions, I must first define my definition of acting freely. My definition of acting freely is the ability to have and make decisions when under no circumstance an external actor, rule or law can stop you from…

Conservatives use the term big government to describe a government or public sector that they consider to be excessively large and involved in certain areas of public policy or the private sector. Economists claim that big government interferes with the business transactions of free enterprise. Libertarians believe it seeks to control private or personal freedoms guaranteed by the “natural law” eloquently philosophized by John Locke and formalized in the U.S. Constitution’s Bill of Rights. Small government, as envisioned by America’s founders sought to prevent tyranny and empower small businessmen and entrepreneurs.…

Before the Napoleonic Era, most governments were conservationist. However, many citizens sought to liberalize Europe in the 19th century. While conservatives were against the Enlightenment and even tried to suppress it in their countries, liberalism developed during the Enlightenment in response to the absolutist policies of monarchs in the 18th century, such as Louis XIV.…

The philosophical question of free will has been debated for years and has spawned many theories, papers and never ending arguments. Soft determinism along side with hard determinism and libertarianism make up the three theories of free will. By focusing on the works of Stace and Cahn, I aim to prove that the idea of soft determinism is not an inherently flawed argument and that free will and determinism are compatible. In the argument of free will, soft determinism falls in the middle between hard determinism and libertarianism.…

Legitimate authority comes only from a social contract agreed by all the citizens, a way to legitimatize the chain. The collective grouping of these citizens is the “sovereign”, and it should be considered to be an individual person. All governments are created to maintain a certain degree of order. Some governments allow each citizen an equal opportunity to participate in political outcomes. Other governments restrict the ability of citizens to have any influence over their nation’s rule. Both cases fall within the scale of government types: from oppressive regimes to anarchist factions. Although these types can differ dramatically, the same goal of all governments remains alike.…

There are two types of model that consist in this world false utopia and the myth/reality. According to Thomas M. Magstadt totalitarian is a political system in which every facet of the society, the economy, and the government is tightly controlled by the ruling elite. Authoritarianism is a system in which all legitimate power rest in one person called a dictator or small group known as oligarchy (Magstadt pg 90& 120). Totalitarianism and Authoritarianism are both like the dictatorship form of governance, but there are great differences between them, namely: who control the political power, the relationship between the ruler and the ruled, and how the dictator comes to political power. Totalitarianism is integral part of contemporary history.…

Libertarianism is a political philosophy that believes that we have free will and that it does not work together with determination. They believe that free will is the way for us to be morally responsible. They also believe that it is in their power to create their own future with the ability that they are given to choose whatever, whenever. They believe that things could have been done differently, so it is our responsibility to make the right decisions. It is freedom of predetermination and one's nature.…
