Authoritarian Style Of Parenting Style Analysis

Mr. and Mrs. McDonald have an authoritarian style of parenting. According to Chapter four in the section of parenting styles, this means they are coercive so they expect their children to be obedient without question. An advantage of their parenting is that their children will be obedient towards other adult figures in their lives such as teachers. Another advantage is the children will not misbehave since they know their punishment will be a spanking. A disadvantage of this parenting is the children will develop low self-esteem and not have much social skills. Such as chores or basic everyday tasks. My grandfather owned a restaurant where I spent most of school breaks at and I will sometimes be there after school since both my mother and father worked there and they could not afford a daycare or babysitter. The days I would spend there, I would try to mop and sweep and do various cleaning tasks. When my mom noticed this, she went to home depot next door and bought me a broom and dustpan that was made for kids. I would also use this around the house to clean up, I also wanted to wash the dishes by myself without my parents help, however I used too much soap and water so my mom would still watch over me. Around the ages of seven or eight, I wanted to start walking myself to the bus stop and also make my own food. Such as pouring my own cereal, making eggs and pancakes and making my own sandwiches. According to chapter four, I went through competence vs. inferiority. When I was around the age of thirteen, I started getting interested in different types of music, but I was mainly into hip hop or pop. When I was interested in this music, I dressed in colorful clothes and shoes and also dressed in mostly Aeropostale, American Eagle or Abercrombie and Fitch clothing. I was into the preppy style, that’s what they called it when I was in middle school. However, when I turned fourteen I started getting into heavy metal and rock music. I still dressed like a preppy kid, but soon started dressing in mostly dark clothing. I wore t-shirts with different band logos on them, fake body piercings and colorful hair extensions and gloves. I also wearing gauges in my ears instead of wearing earrings. I started straightening my hair more rather than wearing it naturally and also cut it so it will look more flippy and sharp like the emo style was at the time. I also tried dying my hair red at one point. I started experimenting
