This report provides an analysis and evaluation of the current advisability of foreign aid. It covers the advantages and disadvantages of foreign aid for australia and for others, how it aligns with australian values as well as a case study of aid in indonesia and its effects on the general populous. Overall we have found that aid provides significant advantages for us and others, at little detriment to ourselves.

Australia and Indonesia have a long history as development partners covering agriculture, defence, education and a range of other fields with the current total estimated level of government and N.G.O assistance to Indonesia has increased to $365.7 million in O.D.A (Official Development Assistance). The A.I.D.C.P (Australia-Indonesia Development Cooperation Program) was established in the 1950s and continue to assist Indonesia with recovering from the financial crisis of the late 1990s and with issues of national security. In 2004-2005, Australia assisted Indonesia’s debt management agency, state-owned bank monitoring units and taxpayers office, as well as the supreme court, Human rights commision and Anti-Corruption Commision. It also shows mateship and camaraderie values that have permitted Australian culture to its very core. These values are often threatened by natural disasters, conflict, disease, famine, lack of economic values,undereducation and so much more . By providing Aid Australia hopes to stabilize the affected regions and uphold these values. Another Australian value is the freedom of speech which is often oppressed in some Middle Eastern and African regions, by providing foreign Aid Australia hopes to reduce poverty in target regions, create education opportunities in poor regions, stabilize regions that were affected by conflict and political instability, eradicate deadly diseases, create or boost infrastructure, reduce world hunger and create clean water sources, strengthen bonds with neighbouring countries, provide economic growth and development and for humanitarian reasons. All the aforementioned goals closely align with Australian values and the Australian ethos of a fair go for all and and a helping hand hand for those in need.
