In addition to being a Golden Globe award winner, Austin Butler is a very endearing person on and off the screen. Austin Butler was born in Anaheim, California on August 17, 1991. Austin was raised by his two loving parents, Lori and David, who divorced when Austin was just seven years old. Austin Butler began his acting career at the age of thirteen years old, when he was noticed by the representatives of a background acting company. To make sure he could really embody the real Elvis Presley and do him justice, Butler took it upon himself to obsess over and study Elvis very carefully. Austin Butler and Elvis Presley share many similarities, both losing their moms at the age of twenty-three. When Austin was in the casting process for ELVIS (2022) he said, “I dreamed that my mom was alive. But she was dying all over again. And then I woke up, I just felt so totally, horribly heartbroken. My grief was overwhelming. And then all of a sudden it clicked That Elvis, who also lost his mom when he was only 23, might have had moments that were similar to this one” (Butler, 2022) When Butler was informed of the production of ELVIS, he wanted the lead role of Elvis Presely, in order to be casted he needed to record a video of him singing and submit the video to director Baz Luhrmann. In doing so, Butler filmed a video of him singing Elvis’s hit single “Love me Tender”. When Butler watched the video of him singing, he did not feel like he did Elvis justice, or brought him to life. When Butler had a nightmare about his mother dying and realized that Elvis Presley and him lost their mothers at the same age. Butler really resonated with Elvis and knew Elvis’s struggles of losing his mom, Butler was then able to embody Elvis and film the audition video. Both Butler and Presley had close relationships with their mothers. Similarities exist, as both Butler and Presley are both very musically inclined and both share a love for the guitar and the piano. Elvis Presley and Austin Bulter both idolize actors such as Marlon Brando and James Dean. Austin showed interest in many “Old-Hollywood actors”.
