She showed them the sleeping girl, and they decided to put the rest of the kingdom to sleep. The prince, who was in her dungeon, was alerted and freed. Roses sprouted around the castle before they could get in, though. They instantly grew back after being cut. Somehow, that prince got through the shrubbery. Another example of the kidnapped woman using fairytales as a tool for survival is when she compares her imprisonment to that of Cinderella. She pleads, “At least Cinderella had her work to keep her busy – the familiarity of sweeping floors and washing windows and cooking the daily bread. If nothing else, because she had truly suffered she could appreciate her ever after” (p. 37). Knowing the Cinderella story gives the kidnapped woman perspective on her situation. She does not have daily tasks to keep her busy like Cinderella did, but knowing that Cinderella eventually escapes imprisonment helps her endure this hardship.…

Harriet Jacobs’ recounting of her life through Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl has not only exposed the great pains she suffered through during her time in slavery but has exposed deep rooted ideologies of black women in American society. Although the actions perpetuating these ideologies have since been abolished, the ideals themselves have been retained through multiple generations of teaching. Jacobs’ story has successfully exposed where the ideologies may have come from through her explanations of sexual corruption, mental manipulations, and power dynamics. Jacob’s made it clear that these struggles were not unique to her but were dealt with by all black women during slavery and in the ‘free world’. These struggles have been most notably re exposed through the Women’s Liberation movement which actively excluded black women.…

A story starts with a girl named Briony, as well as a handsome guy named Eldric, who Briony falls in love with because of his talent, kindness, and his way of making her learn to love herself after all the years she's hated herself because she thinks she’s a wicked witch that could harm people. I wished Briony wouldn't hate herself no matter what she is on the outside, because it depends on what you are on the inside rather than on the outside, because you can be a witch, but have a heart of a pure soul, while you could also be a human who can have the heart of a wicked witch. There were many parts in the story that showed how Briony wasn’t a wicked witch as she,and her stepmother thought she was .One event was when the ghost’s started talking to Briony telling her to stop the workers from taking the swamps water or the Boggy Mun, the swamp ruler will get mad, and give everyone the swamp cough which could kill them.…

“Snow White” is a tale that follows the on-going conflict between Snow White and her stepmother, a conflict otherwise known as the Electra complex. Most overlook, however, the psychological development of the main character, Snow White. An interpretation by Ian Robinson claims that many fairy tales such as “Snow White” involve the breaking of a command or a taboo. He believes there can be no psychological growth until the old rules are broken and the new order can flourish (Robinson). In the Grimm’s “Snow White,” the command or taboo being broken is that of the dwarfs- simply “don’t let anyone in the house” (85).…
