Aunt Tee Journal Entry

Hello, I hope they don't find my journal or find me writin in my journal. Today was a gloomy day in this big of a place, hearin the clank of the horseshoes on the dirt road of these lands, were nobody would walk along these streets without somethin bad happenin to them. But myself and Clotee safe in here from the outside world. Me and her were dustin’ the floors of the parlor. Talkin about how our lives were before we were here cleanin and cookin all day. And I hit the pure wooden table and dropped vase. That vase was more than I could afford. I got ten whuppins again but this time it felt 10 times as worse as it has ever been. Why must I drop everythin. Why must they use a whip. Sometimes I look at Clotee and think she dont like me. But I like her and I trust her. Not like Miz Lilly. Miz Lilly just wants us to keep this darn big place clean. Is it weird that I think I have no ma or pa or kid. My back is like a ball of cotton soft and squishy. I hate gettin whooped. But I’d rather get whooped then do the dirty work outside. Aunt Tee put a paste on my back so it would help it heal good.

“What did you do this time,” Aunt Tee requested.

At least she doesn't have to go thru this pain. Not like me. If she did she dont deserve it. I am a goofy child. Aunt Tee tells me that at least two times a day. I know it’s true. And it will always be true. Clotee came in my room with a scared look on her face. She ask me about my scars on my back. That’s when the room got quiet. I explain to her that I am a clumsy child and how I have tried to do thin right but I can’t. Why can’t I be a normal child or do anythin right. She asked me about my past. I told her I did not know my ma and pa. And that I did not know if I had kids. She told me she know her ma. And how nice her ma was. And that if she could see her again it would be a miracle. And that if her mother was able to take her back she would bring me with her. I wish my ma and pa where like

I spent more and more time emulating my grandfather as an oral historian, bombarding my mother with verbose accounts of daily adolescent life. However, as my social life suffered from a lack of interpersonal confidence, I channeled more and more of my imaginative thoughts onto paper. Rarely did I have the time to compose a fully fleshed-out story; instead, I recalled the poetic beauty of my great-grandfather’s broken English and jotted my thoughts into journals full of lilting stanzas that I shared frequently during Poetry Club at my first high school. Then, at Mission Vista High, I found even more opportunities to flaunt my virtues as an author and storyteller.…
