Aum Shinrikyo, which on the 8th of March 2007 split Aleph and Hikari no Wa, is a Japanese doomsday cult and religious movement founded by Shoko Asahara in 1984 in his one bedroom apartment in Tokyo's Shibuya ward in 1984, starting off as a yoga and meditation class. The group has about 1950 members and was first really noticed in 1995 for the Tokyo subway sarin attack which killed 12 and injured another thousand. Aum Shinrikyo has been formally classified as a terrorist organization by Canada, Kazakhstan and the US.
