Augustus Caesar is an important and influential figure in history. He was born near Rome, Italy on September 23, 63 BC. Caesar was born with the name Gaius Octavius Thurinus. His father was a political figure in Rome. But when Caesar was at the age of 4 his father died.

His uncle Julius Caesar died when Augustus was at a military camp. He was the Heir, so he followed Roman republic traditions, instead of Monarchy or Dictatorship. The Republic was unstable since civil war.

Augustus Caesar was a great leader. He built roads across the empire. He decorated the city of Rome. He established a police and fire department in Rome as well. He also made a postal service in Rome. His rule was the beginning of an era called the Pax Romana (Roman Peace).
