I am honored to say that I have recieved the ability to pursue my education career at Augustana University. However, my first month at Augustana has had some ups and downs. First off, my time spent at Augustana has not been all dandelions and rainbows. I am not going to lie it has been one of the biggest struggles I have had to conquer. My expectations were high for my first weeks at Augustana and my expectations have so far not been met. Being born and raised in Minnesota you come to realize “Minnesota Nice” is a real thing. Not to mention, in high school I spent most of my time with a close knit group of 30 people fro my grade. Our graduating class was the biggest Sartell, MN had seen come across. Everyone in our grade was close and we did not cause much trouble. Coming to Augustana, a smaller university, I hoped that I would find a tight knit group of friends to be really close with. However, so far I feel pretty lonely and that I have to do things independently. I know meeting friends takes time, but I wish things were happening a lot faster. I have done also tried to get involved, so that I can meet new people. I have gone to fitness classes, joined all terrain volleyball, and signed up for SALT and the nursing club. The true definition of the term 'naysayer' is a person who habitually expresses negative or pessimistic views. This is the way that Caroline Bird looks at college in her essay titled "College is Waste of Time and Money". In this article Bird is very strong willed when stating her opinion about college. She tells her readers that the real reason young adults go to college is because "College is a pleasant place to be; because it's the only way they can get parents or taxpayers to support them without working at a job they don't like; because mother wanted them to go, or some other reason entirely irrelevant to the course of studies for which college is supposedly organized" (247). Bird explains to her readers in a very pessimistic way that going to college to get an education has become very uncommon.…

However, what would happen if the aspects of college that you pictured were just erased because they aren’t important in a college experience. In the article Is College Doomed the author Graeme Wood describes a school that is fully based online where the only thing that is considered crucial in their student’s college experience is how good their education. The parts that I consider crucial in a college experience is having all the resources on campus at your disposal, the opportunities to go to sports events, and making friendships with all the new faces you will meet when you arrive on campus. If these are the aspects…

Writer Marc Edelman made the point to say that college athletes are basically employees of these colleges. They put in just as much hours if not more than a full time worker. Edelman writes that “Although the NCAA claims college athletes are just students, the NCAA’s own tournament schedules require college athletes to miss classes for nationally televised games that bring in revenue.” Another good point that he brings up is that March Madness affects more than six days of classes. How can the NCAA say these kids are just students when they are requiring them to do things that brings in profit for the NCAA?…

The starting points of Fordham University can be followed to 1839 when John Hughes, the Bishop of New York, purchased 100 sections of land at Rose Hill in the Fordham area of what was then Westchester County for $29,750. Notwithstanding, he said, "I had not, when I bought the site of this new college...so much as a penny to begin the installment for it." After a nine-month crusade the most cash he could raise privately was $10,000, thus he went to Europe on an asking trek to get the assets that he couldn't raise at home. The budgetary troubles that John Hughes confronted in beginning St. John's College are characteristic of the destitution of the New York Catholic group in 1841.…

I chose this experience because it has taught me to become comfortable within the uncomfortable and create an environment where I am able to adapt quickly to my surroundings. My first semester at college has made me become more independent, willing to push outside of my comfort zones, open-minded, and able to persevere through isolation. Throughout my first semester at Miami University, I’ve learned to become more independent, through most of the daily responsibilities that I hold.…

We all listened to the same bands, loved the same teen heartthrob, and all had a similar personality. It took losing a core group of friends of mine transitioning into freshman year to show me that it’s okay to be your own person. I will say freshman year was a huge struggle for me to go through without being friends with the people that I had grown closest to in the 8th grade and years prior to 9th grade, but in the long run it has benefitted me more than I could have ever imagined that year. I now am not afraid to be alone sometimes and not always hang out with a group of people or one person every weekend.
