August And Pullman Character Analysis

August or Auggie Pullman is an intelligent young man in the 5th grade. He has a gene that makes him face all wonky so he had to have surgeries when he was younger. Even with all the surgeries he still looks wonky. All his life he has been homeschooled until this year. This year is August’s first year in public school. He starts to get bullied because he looks weird and has to do a few things a little different. So a fight goes on between him and his bully for a good bit of the school year. He makes friends to help him while his family also helps him. But August is shy,quiet,and a bit of a pushover so let me explain those traits.

August is shy young man. When he was younger he would wear a helmet to cover his face so he would not get stared at. And in one class he was asked about himself and replied with this “I,um . . . have a sister named Via and a dog Daisy. And …show more content…
He does not speak unless spoken to or he needs something. While introducing himself in a class he was asked to speak up so he could be heard. And while in another class he introduced himself saying “My name is August.” While mumbling with everyone else sharing a fact and speaking clearly.

And his final trait is pushover. He lets people bully and push him around because his facial deformity. He lies about being bullied to his mom so he would not get hurt. And he cut out a hair braid that took him a while to grow just because everyone thought it was weird.

August has changed from shy to a little outgoing. The reason why is because as I said when I explained that he is shy he doesn't really like to open up to people. But he starts to make new friends and open up to more people. And once his friend Jack Will punches his bully Julian in the mouth knocking out a tooth he realizes people care about him and want him to be happy. At the end of the book he receives an award that only one person a year gets and it is very hard to get so he knows that he is special and can open up
