People have been trying to stop crime for many years and current and future technology may hold the answer. Science fiction author Ray Bradbury gives us a glimpse into the near future in his short stories, and shows us that the key to a crimeless future may be soon at hand. Technology will lead to the end of crime.
Admittedly technology can be attributed to many problems in the world today such as bullying. nobullying.com says, “ Cyber bullying came in… with 17 percent of the reports involving cases that were associated with the internet.” A medium that allows people to harass others from a distance while remaining anonymous, sometimes leading people to commit suicide, couldn’t possibly reduce crime.

Most people don’t think a lot about identity theft and other crimes that can be committed digitally, but they definitely happen. However there are digital services that can protect you from those types of crimes. According to identitytheftsecurity.com, “ Sixty percent of all identity theft cases are resolved as a result of digital monitoring and protection services.” With such a high rate of success among identity theft cases it seems we are already on our way to the end of digital crime. Another less thought about way crime can be prevented is through an automated house. In Ray Bradbury’s “August 2026: There Will Come Soft Rains” he writes, “ A dog whined, shivering, on the front porch. The front door recognized the dog voice and opened.” If we applied this to doors today in our houses, intruders couldn't pick locks or use the key that is hiding under the mat in front of the door to get into a house, because the key would be someone's voice. Bradbury also writes about the house that, “ ... It had shut up its windows and drawn shades in an old maidenly preoccupation with self-protection which bordered on a mechanical paranoia.” A house that can protect itself assures that there is no way anyone with bad intentions could get in to do anything to the residents or their property.
A crimeless future is not far off with technology at our side. Through forensics and DNA analysis, cameras, and strange automated houses, many crimes are being prevented. This means we are quickly approaching a planet wide crime free

Punishing the guilty and maintaining the decorum of the society has been the rightful duty of our judicial system. Conjunctly, law enforcing agencies and police department make sure that street and domiciles in our community remain hale and hearty, and the inhabitants prevail. However, with the growing technology and social media, this function of policing and adjudication has been morphed, and assumed by our society to a certain extent. The term crime cannot be defined easily because it does not have one definition nor two; crime is a concept. Moreover, crime is based on a general notion of ideals formed by society, according to time and place (Friedman, 1993, 6). Society does not imply all individuals, the rich and powerful create the laws that compose certain acts as a crime and are then enforced by law enforcement (Friedman, 1993, 10). Thus, giving law enforcement control and power over all individuals. Their job is to protect and serve within their community.…

As I was reflecting back on this story, it was very amusing in the way the house was personified. “It quivered at each sound, the house did.” (Bradbury 2) these kind of sentences occur all throughout the story. You get to see how important the family was to the house. Now that the family is gone, you see the house struggle.…

“There Will Come Soft Rains” is a short story written by Ray Bradbury that depicted a former Utopian town that had been hit by an atomic bomb, the theme of this story is that no matter how perfect everyone thinks life is it could all be taken away, and that technology can distract us, or keep us from thinking too much about bigger issues. First and foremost, Bradbury shows a perfect family being blown away by the atomic bomb, leaving their outlines in the paint (Bradbury). This shows the family doing normal, commonplace things and obviously not expecting anything to happen to them. Moreover, Bradbury showed the house doing personified and human like assignments such as; making breakfast, and checking the weather (Bradbury). By the house…

Since the beginning of civilization there has been crime. People, for years, have tried to eliminate crime in many ways. For many today, people believe prision is a way to be rid of crime and keep our streets safe. To believe that prison is the only way is a path of ignorance. Proof of this comes from; a town in Georgia has figured out an issue that Chicago has been dealing with for years, a criminology report has shown the failures of a prison, and the fraction of issues stopped but a majority rise.…

The other issue with crime is that there is a lot more of it than one would think. The reason being, that a lot of crimes go unreported. Although this may surprise some people, there are numerous reasons why a victim would not report a crime to the police.…

In the MacLean’s article titled “The real reason crime is falling so fast”, Zoe McKnight attempts to explain why the overall crime rate in Canada is dropping (although it may not seem like that all the time.) Referring to Statistics Canada’s latest figures McKnight goes on to try to explain why the number of crimes in Canada is dropping so rapidly. In the past people age 18- 24 have been the ones committing the most crime, but in recent years those who fall in that age category have been committing less and less crime. In an attempt to try to figure out why these numbers are dropping so rapidly criminologists are looking into the role technology has played.…

In this essay I will reflect on the few assumptions and understandings I had about crime and see how they have changed. Upon arriving at De Montfort University to study Criminology and Criminal Justice, I had average knowledge about crime and punishment i.e. insight into biological and psychological perspectives of crime having studied A-level Law and Psychology beforehand. However I did expect to delve so deep into the history and other aspects of Criminology during this first semester. During A-level Law I have read many case studies of murder, manslaughter, GBH, rape etc. I found the main reasons behind committing these crimes were usually motives for revenge, loss of control, hate, rage, and biological inheritance of 'criminal genes ' such as Monoamine oxidase A which makes individuals more prone to exert violence.…

Kids think the internet is a great place but really there are inappropriate photos, videos, games, and websites. Kids should most definitely not have technology because it affects their health/ abilities, it does not give them a chance to just be kids, and it can cause cyberbullying.…
