Augie: A Personal Narrative Of My Life

Decent Essays
I have always been one for thinking big, dreaming big and achieving big. That's the reason I came to this country in the first place; away from my loving and caring parents, away from my little brother who needs me by his side and away from my home country, which I believe one day I'll be blessed to go back to and be the strong difference maker I've always dreamt of being.

I love my current university, Augie(Augustana University). In soon to be one year of my stay here, Augie is the place I've made lots of friends from so many different countries; Augie is the place I got to learn so much more about life than I previously did and grow even more mature; Augie is the place where I repeatedly step outside of my comfort zone, which, while a bit

Another reason I'm transferring is due to my financial condition. I came from a middle class family in Ethiopia, who strongly encouraged me in my pursuit of education in the US, hence aided me in every way they can to get me to the place I'm right now. But as we all know, education in the US is not the most affordable investment even for a middle class family in the US let alone for a citizen of an underdeveloped country. For my freshman year at Augustana, I managed to get my funds from the maximum scholarship for an international student Augustana provides, which managed to cover half of my cost and the rest as a student loan from a US bank. Despite the fact that I was able to cover my educational expenses I don't plan on getting a student loan again for my next year education; that's the second reason why I want to pursue my future education in your prestigious institution. I know I'm going to have an amazing and successful future, where I can not only prosper as an individual but also be there for my family, my country and everyone around me. Consequently, that is the reason why I'm sincerely asking your university to give me the chance, the tools, the wisdom and the platform I need to start building my future. Thank

    An Ordinary Autobiography

Beginning I suppose that an ordinary autobiography would began with a date of birth. Regretfully, I do not know of the time which I was born. I, like many other slaves, was not afforded the privilege of such knowledge. Not because our masters did not want to tell us, I’m pretty sure that they were not aware of it either, no, if anything, having the knowledge of when their slaves were born was most likely considered blasphemy to them, but I digress.…

Honestly, I'm not sure why I want to attend Augustana. However, it was one of the few places I visited that struck a chord. The campus was beautiful and the layout of the buildings gave the campus a sense of community, while retaining the individuality. A variety of architectural styles made the buildings stand out, but it all flowed together like a piece of abstract art. Stories of sledding down the hills in the winter and of seeing the plays and art shows students put on provided a sense of community.…
