The next character is Audrey. She is a Hispanic mechanic, with a feisty attitude. She is tough and hardworking. Audrey symbolizes the ‘typical’ Latino Female. Latino women are stereotyped to be tough with feisty attitudes. It also shows how society places individuals into a hierarchy based on race. They make Audrey the Mechanic yet make Milo the leading role. Why couldn’t Audrey be a scientist or have some other occupation that didn’t deal with manual labor? She is given the job of a mechanic because it shows that she may be hardworking but she doesn’t have the criteria to be placed on the high status associated with being a scientist or any other occupation of that degree. Another character is Helga. Helga is a bombshell blonde that has the role of seducing Milo to go on the exploration with the crew. She reinforces the ideology about blonde women, or women in general, being the seducers of men and getting the men to do what they desire. Helga, however, does go against the notion that blonde women are ditsy, or dumb, but …show more content…
Cookie is the stereotypical hillbilly, with dentures and chews tobacco. He is very old and senile. Joshua an African American Doctor. I was surprised to see that they gave an African American the role of a doctor but then I noticed he doesn’t have the stereotypical characteristics of a doctor. Joshua is extremely muscular and rarely has a shirt on in the movie. I generally supposed it was because there is a belief that black men workout and are very strong. They are able to be used for their brute force and labor. The receptionist character is made out to have very little knowledge about the exploration and what they are even doing. She gossips on the phone and annoyingly chews gum. I thought the movie showcased the belief that receptionists are rude, are always using the office phone to talk to friends, and have no idea as to what is actually happening within the

Also, she knows everyone and she is always involved with everything. Therefore, she would be a great person to play on first base. I chose the Padres as her team since it is her home team. I personally think the show “The Beverly Hillbillies” are in a way exploiting white stereotypes. They are showcasing a family from the country moving into a lavish educated society. The show plays on the perception of white trash society, such as rednecks or hillbillies. Although the show is done for comedy purposes, it does capitalize on stereotypes within society. In the book Dean mentions, “Even critics who enjoy the show do so from a crouched defensive posture” which is regarding to another popularized hillbilly show, Honey Boo Boo, but showcases the feelings audiences may be feeling.…

The novel The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne follows the life of Hester Prynne, a woman living in Puritan America and forced to wear a scarlet letter that represents her sin of adultery. Although faced with hate, Hester manages to rise above it and help others. The novel classifies as a feminist novel because it shows a woman, alone in a world filled with discrimination, battle against society’s judgement and not giving into peer pressure. A feminist is someone who stands up for the equal treatment of men and women.…

Hi Chrisanta. We are on the same page since I also think that the Beverly Hillbillies TV show convey full of stereotypes about hillbillies, white trash, and redneck. Many people claim that it is just a comedy TV show; therefore, some people have to be made fun of so that the show can bring laughs to its viewers. However, to me, everything should be in limit, and people should watch out how they convey stereotypes in a show since it will strongly and permanently create stereotypes in our society. There is nothing wrong to be born in a poor family or in a working class family.…

She talks about how people stereotyped her how different American culture was different from Puerto Rican culture and about how she want to fit in, but couldn’t because of different culture and traditions. For example, “It quickly became obvious that to the puerto Rican girls “dressing up” meant wearing their mother’s ornate jewelry and clothing, more appropriate (qtd in Cofer page 443). It made her dress up in a different way that she was not used in American. Stereotypes of people of color and minority races have been around for many years, and have proved themselves to dominate the perception of people of color in everyday life. Films portray people of color as they are perceived by white Americans, not how they truly are, unique. Film has only dirtied the minority races’ image over time, though if the movies were not made by other Americans, they were more accurate to their race. Stereotypes of Asians have been around for a long time, ever since Asians were introduced. Stereotypes such as Asian students are smarter, Asian women are more exotic and tend to wait on men, Asian women are submissive, Asian people are all from China, and many others.…

In the play titled “Tape” by Jose Rivera, many people can argue over the Attendant as being a stereotype or developed by their own opinions about the Attendant because the play did not mention the character’s gender, background, or personality. On the other hand, we can see the Attendant emotion by the way he or she responds and the passionate towards the Person. The story is basically about the death of a person afterlife. For some reason, it does not really focus on the Attendant’s situation; so wondering what type of character the Attendant is seem to be the main argument I found in this play. Since the play lacks of the character’s information, I believe this describes the Attendant as a stereotype.…

In Hedda Gabler, Henrik Ibsen portrays the dangers of conforming to society’s expectations of masculinity through the good fortune and consequence met by his male characters. George Tesman and Eilert Lovborg are two of the main male characters in the play, and both have significant relationships with the title character. Their characterizations, as well as their fates, vary greatly. Neither one of the men fits perfectly into gender stereotypes, and their failings in the eyes of society are what make them analytically intriguing.…
