On November 18, 1937 Audrey was born in McKeesport Pennsylvania. McKeesport is outside of Pittsburgh. She didn’t live in the wealthiest family, but just about moderate to that time. She grew up with her parents and one brother. Although she moved to Los Angeles California when she was only six, memories of McKeesport still flourish in her mind. "It was a small town, where everyone knew everyone," she said. People couldn’t get away with a crime because everyone would know exactly who it was. After moving to Los Angeles she realized it was a much more prosperous time. People here had a better lifestyle and were all around happier. My nana never served in the military, but her uncle did. She got payed somewhere around five thousand dollars yearly. She also held many office jobs, but sitting at a desk all day wasn’t very interesting. She remembers that a can of tuna, and a gallon of gas only costed around 25 cents. Since then the price of tuna has went up more then a dollar, and gas has went up more then two dollars. Some of the major events in her early life, and things that have stuck with her forever include the war, when Roosevelt died, and when her dad died when she was young. She now looks back at her family and she realizes how important it is to feeling like part of a family, or feeling loved. Her parents were strict, which made her less strict on her kids (my mom), for she didn’t want them to grow up the way her parents raised her. The most popular music of the time was orchestra, and rock n roll. Her favorite song was called Rock Around the Clock. She felt like she conformed to society, by following rules, therefore she was able to become a better person and citizen. One of the best memories she had as a kid was learning to drive at age 16. In 1956 it was her big day. For only $500 she got a 1951 Chevrolet in a grayish white. If kept in good condition these cars can auction for a ton of money. Currently, the standard Chevrolet cars cost a little over $14,000. If our cars costed what they used to cost then we could head over to the 5 and Dime store and buy
