I loved it but I also watched some of the women I worked with struggle to make ends meet at home, financially, and being present for their growing families. Because family is so important in my life, I decided to go to college. After the struggles I faced in grade school I never imagined myself ever attending college but I was determined to at least get an associates degree in business to eventually open my own salon. My second semester I enrolled in a Speech Communication class designed to help communicate in the most effective way. My professor always related back to his educating years where he had to communicate with all different ages of students. After lots of debating if I can do it, and if this is what I wanted, I decided to switch majors to education. My mom owns an in home daycare and I have always had a passion working with children, It all made sense now. My visit there was with my cousin who previously attended and graduated in 2005 from the education program. He now lives in Orlando and is a successful gym teacher. This was the first highlight of the school because he was a student who now has a job, something that can be difficult to do in the education field. He showed me around campus and immediately I noticed and fell in love with the the alive, energetic vibrancy on campus. I also chose UCF because of the incredible sense of balance between the high caliber academics and social life. Most schools have one or the other and you don't have to choose here.
