Audience Analysis
Student 1 Lorraine:
Lorraine’s native language is Spanish. She has been studying English since kindergarten and has been my student since the beginning of the school year. Lorraine is in the intermediate fluency stage of language development. She is able to read text and relate the context of the reading to the lesson. She does well on critical thinking test questions. Lorraine is able to write brief paragraphs on context. Unfortunately, Lorraine is very shy and when she speaks it is difficult to hear her. I feel that her initial struggles to speak English affected her self-confidence.
Student 2 Hioshi:
Hioshi’s native language is Japanese. He has been studying English since 5th grade and has been in my student for one month. Hioshi is in the speech emergence stage of language development. He demonstrates good comprehension skills after reading text by correctly completing graphic …show more content…
He has been studying English for one year and is new to my classroom. Jose is in the speech emergence stage of language development. He is able to speak in complete sentences while telling stories based on his personal experiences. Jose does okay when writing one or two sentences. He demonstrates good comprehension skills and is able to match vocabulary words to pictures correctly. Since Jose is new to the class, he doesn’t have many friends yet and is quite shy. I think his shyness keeps him from participating in class.
All of these students do not have English support at home. Their language barriers have interfered with their socialization currently or at some point in their educational experience. When we have group activities, I try and pair these students together. I have noticed that when paired together, they interact more and seem to be at their comfort level. All of the students seem to have strengths or weaknesses that I need to focus on throughout the lessons to help them
