Audience Analysis: A Persuasive Speech Against Immigrants

Audience analysis is important to both the speaker and the audience. It is important to the speaker to analyze the audience before hand, taking into account ethnicity, intelligence level, gender, age, and background. Then the speaker can craft a speech that resonates with the hearts of his or her audience so that the point will get across. Additionally, it is important for the speaker to analyze who the audience will be to ensure he or she will not say something extremely offensive or careless. For example, I realized through the personal speeches everyone gave that there a many students from different countries and I would not want to write a persuasive speech against immigration. Audience analysis is also important to the audience itself because they will understand more when their speaker carefully selects words with their demographics in mind. In a general group, there are usually several different learning types among the group. For example, I am a very visual and reading/writing learner. I learn best when something is written out for me to see. However, my brother Will is a very kinesthetic learner, who learns by seeing and trying things for himself. If a speaker was writing a speech for my brother and I, he or she may want to consider adding in visual elements and demonstrations. Analyzing an audience and taking into account that people have different learning styles helps a speaker effectively give a speech in a way that everyone in the audience will be able to take something
