While Durer has been compared to the Italian master Leonardo de Vinci because of their similar interests in naturalism and environmental perceptions, Durer differed by being able to spread awareness of himself and his work across Europe. Adventuring out as a young gifted apprentice, Durer traveled abroad advancing his gifts, while leaving a lasting legacy of his unique work. Albrecht Durer, 1471, was the second son out of almost 18 children that Albrecht Durer senior and Barbra Holper had, with only 3 of them surviving to adulthood.…

The Peplos Kore and Anita Huffington’s Kore are two established works of art that possess the delicate nature of humanity. The differences between the Peplos Kore and Anita Huffington’s Kore can likely be attributed to the magnitude of elapsed time between their creations; however, their similarities stem from the similar depictions of the female body. The Peplos Kore was sculpted during the Archaic period in 530 BCE., just before the Classical period, whereas Anita Huffington’s Kore is a contemporary work of art crafted in 1991. Despite very dissimilar goals, both artists were able to portray the tranquility of the female body’s physical and emotional elements. Seen as one of the of the most exceptional figures from the Archaic period, The Peplos Kore from Acropolis, Athens comes into the picture.…

Discuss how two artworks featuring the human figure represent the cultural forces from the world in which they were produced. Art is intuitively reflective of cultural forces that impact societal values and sociology; through representation of the human figure, artists reveal their present insight into culture that has been informed by their personal life and audience. Inherently present in art, these manifestations of culture are contorted throughout time as social paradigms change. Edgar Degas’ sculpture, Little Dancer of Fourteen Years (1881) was indicative of the conservative and aristocratic community of the 18th century that disguised a world of vulnerability and despondency, replacing it with an overtly aestheticized portrayal of lifestyle and the human figure.…

Born son to the obscure General Alex Dumas, Alexandre too shared in the blood of both a black slave and a white aristocrat. General Dumas died when Alexandre was a young child of not even 4 years of age. Highly romanticized and biased towards his father, the writings left behind by Alexandre père, are basically the main source when it comes to finding out about this larger-than-life war hero that was General Dumas. In The Black Count, Tom Reiss hopes to uncover the story of General Dumas in order to write a biography that rivals Alexandre Dumas père’s greatest works of his own father.…

The second artwork, Corps Etranger, by Mona Hatoum, depicts a literal embodied experience. The piece is held within a cylindrical shell, where a viewer must immerse themselves inside. While inside, the floor the viewer stands upon shows videos from an endoscopic camera entering a body. The video metaphorically and literally swallows a viewer. In this day and age, many are highly conscious of how they present themselves to society. Some choose to focus highly on the influence in self-image, and in turn go through many alterations in order to enhance their appearances in ways they seem fit. On the other end of the spectrum, there are those that are fine with their untouched appearances and show great amounts of confidence when out in public. In the days of the Renaissance era, the artist Albrecht Durer captures this latter idea of self-confidence in his work Self-Portrait, finished in the year 1500. Durer’s Self-Portrait is an intimidating piece of artwork, with respect to the background and appearance of Durer himself.…

The painting I chose to do an analysis on is “Kneeling Mother with a Child at Her Breast”. In the painting I see a African women with dark skin kneeling down on both knees holding her baby in her left arm with one hand behind head and the other on the buttocks. She is kneeling on a round grey mat while the baby is sucking on her nipple. She is also starring in her baby’s eyes with somewhat of a grin on her face. Both her and her baby are butt naked in this painting.…

This piece of art that I have researched, will be writing about, and comparing to other pieces of art is the Jain Shrine. The country of origin that these shrines come from is India. Unfortunately we do not know of the artist that created any of the Jain Shrine’s in particular that are still preserved today. It is suggested that more than likely a wealthy individual from northwest India would have had this small shrine created for his own private Jainism religion purposes. Jainism is a religion of India which is older and was firmly established at the same time of the origin of Buddhism (Jain).…
