I, Caitlyn Hogan, have read this entire article. This article, by Dagg, covers the attributes of God. As we aim to fulfill the duties given to us by God, we must first know His character. We should work to know God. Thus, we should start with God’s attributes. There are eleven attributes that are discussed. The first attribute is Unity. Moses told Israel “The Lord our God is one Lord.” Though plural names of deity are numerously used in the Old Testament, they were not used to teach the doctrine of polytheism. The unity of God renders His moral government one. The fact that the people of God have one God unites them in worship. The second attribute is Spirituality. God is all-knowing; He differs from all living creatures in knowledge because His knowledge is not above our knowledge. We cannot understand His knowledge because it is above human understanding. God did not attain His knowledge from other creatures or by doing or learning things through actions. God knows all the possible ways for things to occur, this depends on His power. God also knows the all of the actual things, and this depends on His will. God knows and carefully regards all creatures. God knows the things in the past, present, and future. Some people believe that God has the power to know all things, but does not know all things. If God does not all things past, present, and future, how will God be able to judge the world? This view is, therefore, incorrect because God is omniscient and omnipotent not just omnipotent. We do not know if God has a method analogous rather to our memory or perception than to our reason. The doctrine that there is no succession in the eternality of God, neither denies nor explains his foreknowledge. It is impossible for us to know and understand God’s knowledge with our human understanding. The sixth and seventh attributes are omnipotence and goodness. God can do what He wants when He wants. God cannot do things against His moral perfection. He also cannot do things that contradict one another. God’s goodness means God is infinitely benevolent. God is truthful in His veracity and faithfulness. God does not let people know the truth if they are going to abuse it. God is also just in His punishments against sin. He punishes all sin equally because one sin is not more severe than another. The tenth and eleventh attributes are God’s holiness and wisdom. God is holy. The holiness of God includes His goodness, truth, and justice. God’s wisdom is different than His knowledge. Wisdom is using one’s knowledge the correct way in each circumstance. God always uses wisdom in every situation. Knowing God’s attributes are important because it leads to a better understanding of God. This new level of understanding leads one to learn how to fear God. Fearing God is the beginning of wisdom. The love of God will increase with a true knowledge of Him. With a true love of God comes humility. And a true knowledge of God gives confidence. With the new found confidence one can go share their knowledge of God with others with a new
