Attractiveness-Personal Narrative

Improved Essays
I usually wake up at 6:15, and get into the shower. It's Monday and I woke up late. I hate everything about school and the process of becoming "attractive". I'm about 5 foot with brown eyes, and brown hair. Boring. I wouldn't consider myself pretty, but whatever.

School starts at 7:45. Bus comes at 7:25. I now have no time to take a shower, and don't know what to wear. I just end up wearing skinny jeans and and a black shirt. I grab my book bag and my purse. I opened the door and waited for my bus. It was about 7:30, and the bus still wasn't there. I decided to walk.

I left, and walked down the ally. I thought it would be a shortcut. While I was walking I just felt like something odd was going to happen. I ended up being late by like 15 minutes. I told my teacher I was late because I had to walk, he didn't believe me, what's new? He asked for my homework, didn't have it. He asked why, no answer. I just sat down after a sigh escaped my mouth.

Frey?" he asked.

"Nah, but I would enjoy leaving right now," I said.

"Well we all do, Tina." he paused, "Doesn't mean you don't do your work, or show up late for school, I rolled my eyes, glad he didn't see. I felt my face turn from pale to a rose, I felt like everyone was staring at me. Judging me. I don't like that feeling, nervousness. He began to teach again. Still shaky, I raised my hand.

"Can I go to the bathroom, I don't feel to good?" I asked.

"No, you may not. You were late, didn't have your materials, why would I let you go to the bathroom?" he asked.

"Because, I actually listen. Unlike most of these kids." I said.

"That's it office now."

"This is bullshit," yes, I said that out loud.

"You will go to the damn office now," he screamed

Certain cultures around the world go about finding a mate completely different than most people in America. The family will pick their daughters spouse, love and attractiveness having nothing to do with their relationship at the beginning. Their love may grow over time. However in America we marry someone because we feel as if we are in love with them and feel a sense of physical attraction When you meet a potential mate physical attractiveness is more often than not, the most appealing thing about them. It is your first judgement and depending on how you feel about the physical attractiveness could have an impact on how you will treat them.…

One misperception I feel that I have had in the past is that of my appearance. It what I am referencing specifically is that I used to have a beard that was significantly long. Something that drops into my mind would be speaking to my parents, they would always say something unpleasant to say about it. It makes me infuriated on the inside on how they speak to me when they are referencing my facial hair and what I appear to look like. Human faces and the physical variations among them have been a significant interest to countless researchers, especially considering the human ability to process, recognize, and distinguish information about facial variations (Little, Jones, & DeBruine, 2011). Additionally, humans may be innately interested in faces and favor attractiveness over unattractiveness as several studies have shown that infants prefer facial stimuli over non-face stimuli (Cassia, Turati, & Simion, 2004; Goren, Sarty, & Wu, 1975; Valenza, Simion, Cassia, & Umilta, 1996), while additional studies revealed that infants prefer looking at human faces previously assessed as attractive by adults (Griffey, & Little, 2014; Langlois et al., 1987; Slater et al., 1998). Similarly,…

I happened to be wearing my favorite dress at the time, a short gray one that flowed out down my waist and settled on my thighs. I was walking my usual route. From the front of Ratliff, I would walk down the street all the way to Orndorff then turn up the street and go up the stairs to the walkway. From there I would pass the Tech Center and go down the hill and use the back door to enter Ratliff.…

Apparently Appearance Matters As someone passes by, it’s natural for them to look another person up and down, make uninformed assumptions, and pass judgements. With assumptions and judgments being made, it allows people to place themselves, and others, into groups they think they belong, or don’t belong in. Individuals who hold a position of power tend to decide what groups others are supposed to be in based on their appearance and interests. In the process of categorizing someone, many factors such as social identity, power, and communication make a huge impact on making these decisions.…
