She’d been between the ages of 18-27 years old. My biological father had domestically abused her from 1996-1999, while my step-father abused her from 2000-2005. I had asked her if she didn’t mind telling me some of the things they had done to her, which she didn’t mind. My biological father from 1996-1999 would slap her in the face, kick her in the stomach, pull her hair and give her black eyes. While, my step-father from 2000-2005 broke her nose, gave her a miscarriage by pushing her down the stairs, and did the things that my biological father did. My mother believed that this Domestic abuse had been caused from drug and alcohol abuse by both men. I had asked my mother “why didn’t you have the courage to leave?”, and she responded with they had both threatened her saying “They would kill her and her children.” Then my mother told me something that beyond amazed me which was, when she would go to court with both my biological and step-father and explain to them what had been going on, they responded by saying “ Oh you’ll be fine, you guys just need counseling.” Based on this information, until people stop abusing alcohol, stop abusing drugs, and stop abusing each other mentally and physically Domestic Violence will no longer
