Attitudes In Huckleberry Finn's Life

In the story The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Huck lives with two people, his father and the widow. During his time living with them he displays different demeanor within his two lifestyles. While he lives with the widow, the household rules are strict, religious, and rigid. Huck’s attitude reflects it, he strays away from cussing and listens to readings about the widow’s religious beliefs. During his time with his dad, there are no rules and Huck acts more like a wild child. When Huck lives with Pap, he acts more freely but he lives in fear, however, when he lives with the widow he has to follow more rules but lives with safety and comfort. In the beginning of the story we meet Huck. Huck lives with the widow because his dad, Pap, is a drunk. The widow teaches Huck about the bible, schooling and buys him nice clothes. Huck lives a more strict lifestyle. For example, we see the Widow’s …show more content…
Pap is Huck’s abusive father who comes back for Huck’s large sum of money. He and Huck live a life with no rules. Huck, at first, likes this lifestyle because he doesn't have to rebel or abide to any rules. Huck says “I didn't want to go back to the widow’s any more and be so cramped up and sivilized, as they called it. This shows that he is living uncivilized like he wanted. Huck likes living without any rules. However, there is no safety. Huck likes this lifestyle until one night when Pap came home drunk. “Pap called me the Angel of Death and said he would kill me… I begged, and told him I was only Huck, but he laughed such a screechy laugh, and roared and cussed, and kept on chasing me up” (41). This event is when Huck comes to the realization that he can't live like this anymore. Pap comes home drunk and beats Huck. Pap repeats this action everynight and everyday. While Pap is out, Huck is locked up in the house and is not allowed to leave. Huck hates this lifestyle so much that he eventually fakes his death just to get away from
