For example, bad habits may be a case of where a person has an attitude of knowing the habit is bad or unhealthy for them, yet they continue the behavior anyways. In this case, attitude not matching behavior would be a disadvantage because if attitude and behavior did match, the person would not be engaging in the bad habit and therefore would be living a healthier lifestyle. I first picked up Highly Illogical Behavior at the recommendation of Mrs. Bock. I had never read a book with a protagonist who had a mental illness that was present in the behavior and the overall plot proceedings throughout the novel. I usually tend to stay within the genres that I am familiar with - romance and realistic fiction. Most of the books that I read are about how a man and a woman fall in love in spite of emotional and physical strife. Highly Illogical Behavior, however, was about a man who had such severe social anxiety that he developed agoraphobia, thus rendering him incapable of leaving his house.…

Cognitive dissonance theory is the theory that states that an individual attitudes and actions do not match each other. It is the tendency for an individual to seek balance among our cognition (beliefs, opinions, etc) when there is a discomfort or a buffer (dissonance/inconsistency) between our attitude and our action. To solve this problem, he or she may change something to eliminate or reduce the dissonance. Attitude is the way we feel about a particular way towards an object, people, and events. A real life example is when I was in high school…

Kathia Rodriguez Comm 135 M/W Behavioral vs. Personal Complaint “You always throw your sock on the floor” -Is an example of behavioral complaint as opposed to Personal complaint such as “You’re a slob” , both provided in the book. In the previous example shown we can clearly see the difference between the two. Like the title represents “Personal complaint” is in fact more personal, aimed at personal characteristics. In the world there are many types of people, some choose to live a good, happy life while a few become lonesome and sad. Someone's attitude plays a big role in the actions of a person. Some may state that a persons attitude does not effect the way they preform or become successful. Although, many say how you preform reflects the attitude that you have shown. In Richard Wrights novel, Native Son, the main character hardly ever revealed a positive attitude which led to him not thinking wisely before his actions.…

I believe that having a good attitude is one of my best qualities when it comes to communicating with others. When there is a conflict, there is always a solution. However, to get to it, you must have a positive attitude to deal with the situation, which shows great character skills. Throughout my lifetime, I have learned that your attitude and your character, in general, shapes what people think of you, and how they may react to you in the future. This led me to believe that my attitude may be contagious, and it can alter what other people are feeling.…

In the article, “My enemy’s enemy is my friend” it talks about a case study done at the University of Texas by two people of the name Elliot Arson and Vernon Cope to test a hypothesis that people will like people who dislike the same person as them, or like someone if they like the same people as them. This runs off of the theory that some people may believe that because they share the liking or disliking of someone that they are similar people with the same values and beliefs, this can be derived from the balance theory. When considered, this hypothesis is easily thought of to be accurate. With this hypothesis, there can be many other hidden factors that can play into these situations.…

I believe that the data collected in the study is appropriate for the conclusion that was drawn. The questions and observations related to the main topic of slut shaming and the attitudes surrounding it among women of differing status. A criticism that I have is that it focused on white women on that university campus and merely focuses on status as it was linked to class level. It failed to include people from different racial backgrounds and its contribution to status. Additionally, the group interviewed was not a representative sample of the population of college women since it only researched one floor on a predominantly white campus.…

Explicit attitudes, on the other hand, are attitudes that are made by individuals consciously and therefore expressible. Whether or not attitudes are expressed also depends on social norms and individual’s attitude towards an object to react (Ewoldsen et al., 2014). Ewoldsen et al. (2014) argues that attitude and norms are only likely to influence behavior when the attitude and suggestive norms are activated when the decision is being made. Attitude and suggestive norms does (do) not play a role in (the) decision to engage in behavior when they are not activated.…
